Video Overview

Price: 4.5/5

One of the standout qualities of the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine is its low price. Sunny Health & Fitness seem to have a gift of using a combination of cheap construction and parts, to create durable products that they can then offer for low prices.

Not only are the prices of their products low, but they also deliver an unexpectedly good user experience. The Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine is no different to their other products and fits into this category well.

For around $200 you’ll get a good workout and a reliable rowing machine, which means the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine is great value for money.

Reliability & Warranty: 4/5

The Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine should prove to be a reliable machine long-term. There aren’t many complaints from users about the longevity of the rower.

We’ve rated the reliability of the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine at 4/5, based on the assumption that it’s not going to be used by an experienced rower or a person with a high level of fitness, but rather, someone who is a beginner or has a medium level of fitness.

If the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine were to be used at high intensities at the max level of resistance on a consistent basis, it would be hard to say for sure if the mechanism or rope would hold up long-term. However, for the majority of the fitness population, the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine should prove to be more than enough to work up a sweat and not have it break down.

Stability and Quality: 4/5

Given the price of the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine, the stability of the product is very good. You shouldn’t experience any rocking or wobbling on the machine when rowing even at the higher resistances.

The quality of the rower is also better than expected. Whilst it doesn’t have a luxury finish or feel to it like some high-end rowers, considering the price you pay, most users will be more than happy with the quality.

A good proportion of the rower is constructed of what some may consider cheap plastic, however, this does not affect the overall rowing experience as the parts that really matter are made of steel.

Comfortability: 3.5/5

Seat comfortability seems to be a frequent problem area for a lot of rowing machines as they can’t seem to satisfy everyone. A handful of users have complained that the seat on the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine is a little on the hard side, however, if this does turn out to be true for you, you can always buy a padded seat cover.

The Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine has eight levels of tension control

Resistance: 3.5/5

The resistance itself on the rower is easy to use and controllable via a tension knob just below the LCD monitor. Some users will feel that this type of tension has it advantages over air resistance rowers as the resistance isn’t determined by how hard and fast your rowing stroke. In other words, you can row at a slower pace and still select a high resistance.

The Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine comes with 8 levels of resistance which will keep a lot of people challenged. Beginners and people with a moderate level will find that they can lose weight and tone their bodies by progressing through the resistance levels. That being said, people who already are experienced at rowing or are particularly fit will want to consider a more advanced machine as the highest level could be considered too easy.

The Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine in it’s folded position

Size: 4/5

The Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine has a small footprint and also has the added bonus that it is foldable. To fold it up you have to remove a pin from the middle and then lift up the backend of the rower. Should you wish to then move it, you can tilt it up and use the transport wheels to wheel it around.

Noise: 4/5

The fact that the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine uses magnetic resistance means it’s much quieter than other rowers which use air resistance.

Whilst it isn’t ‘dead silent,’ it’s still quiet enough to workout on the rower without having to turn up the volume on your TV. At the same time, if you love to work out early or are concerned about disturbing others, you should find that the rower is quiet enough to not have to worry about this. Obviously, if you are rowing in the same room as someone who is sleeping they are likely to hear it, but if you’re in another room then this shouldn’t be a problem

The Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine’s inbuilt console

Features: 2.5/5

The one area where the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine fails is in the usefulness of the monitor that it comes with.

Every machine comes with a small LCD panel built in the unit just above the tension knob which is designed to track your count (strokes), total count, time and calories burned. Whilst the machine does accurately track the count and time accurately when it comes to the calories burned this isn’t the case.

Since the monitor doesn’t know your height or weight it’s reading is going to be a guess at best. Anyone who wants to track this metric would be far better off using a third-party app or device.

The problem we just mentioned regarding the calorie count isn’t that big of a problem nor is it specific to the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine, given that most low priced cardio machines suffer from the same issue.

However, the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine is unlike most other cardio machines in that it fails to track distance which is likely to be a metric that a lot of users will find useful.

This is one of the big flaws and the one area where competitor models have the advantage.

If you’re looking for a piece of equipment that you can use to keep fit without having to pay more than a few hundred dollars, then the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine is more than suitable to do the job.

Not only is it low in price, but it also manages to give it’s user a smooth and effective workout, which a lot of other rowers fail to do at this price range.

However the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine is unlikely to be able to satisfy everyone as it’s apparent that it is more suited to a beginner/intermediate level of fitness. If you are particularly fit or row frequently at high intensities, you will probably find you will need to get a more advanced machine that has a higher level of resistance as well as a better computer to track your metrics.

On the other hand, the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine should more than satisfy everyone else. If you only want to spend a couple hundred dollars, then you’re not going to find a dramatically better machine than the Sunny Health and Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine. It really is one of the best value machines there is at this price.
