What is the ProForm Power 995i Treadmill?
The Power 995i is just one of a number of treadmills in Proform’s Power range. As the name suggests it’s built with power in mind and sets out to challenge hardcore runners all the way. Offering inclines of up to 15% and top speeds of 12 MPH, the ProForm Power 995i offers more than most treadmills in this price range.
There have been a couple of reiterations of this model, so be sure you get the one you want, whether that be the most recent version or the one before.
The fact that the ProForm Power 995i is under $1,000 makes this an attractive purchase. Although it’s right at the ceiling of the $1,000 dollar mark, when you see the treadmill or start using it for the first time, you’ll be surprised that it is not more expensive. It’s stability and smoothness mimic that of a commercial grade machine you’d find down at your local gym.
Reliability & Warranty: 4/5
With a motor of 3.0 CHP, the ProForm Power 995i Treadmill should be able to take the strain of repeated use over the years. That being said with most treadmills, problems do occur, and this treadmill is no different.
Reviews on Amazon have reported some breakdowns, and whilst they are fixed eventually, Proform’s customer service hasn’t been described in the best light. Many customers have reported extremely long waiting times on the phone.
The warranty on this machine is as good as you’d expect from a $1,000 treadmill. There’s a lifetime warranty on the frame and motor, 3 Years on parts and 1 year on labour.
Stability and Quality: 4.5/5
The stability of the machine is never in question, as it is very solid and sturdy. Furthermore, there should be no problem supporting a high-speed runner on its belt. As mentioned before, when you’re on this treadmill you can tell it has been well made, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if you forgot you were on a home treadmill and not a commercial one.
Power & Noise: 4.5/5
The ProForm Power 995i Treadmill is run on a 3.0 CHP motor which is a high spec for a treadmill under the $1,000 mark.
With such a powerful motor, this treadmill will be more than happy to accommodate larger and heavier users, and also someone who loves to run at high speeds for long periods. The motor can also spin the belt up to a maximum speed of 12 MPH, giving it an advantage over other treadmills which often max out at 10 MPH.
At its fastest speed it isn’t too noisy. There’s no cranking or screeching noises from the machine, all you’ll get is the steady whirring noise you would expect from a treadmill.
If you decide to purchase the ProForm Power 995i, you’ll need a fair bit of space to store the treadmill as it is reasonably big. Given that the belt area is 5 inches longer than most large sized treadmills, you may need slightly more space than other treadmills. However, don’t look at this as a negative factor, as the extra length means that the longer area makes it more comfortable to run on. This is especially important if taller people plan to use this machine.
With the large size comes added weight. The treadmill is heavy, and you may have to take this into consideration when choosing where to place your machine. Assembling such a large machine may require two people to do it comfortably, however, it’s possible to do it with one.
In addition, it has been reported that this isn’t an easy machine to assemble given the complexity of the machine and the lack of detailed instructions. Expect it to take a long time to assemble. It may be a good idea to get an assembly plan thrown in if you are easily frustrated by having to assemble things.
The ProForm Power 995i Treadmill has a lot of features.
Firstly, it has built-in speakers and MP3 device compatibility, so you can listen to your own music when using this treadmill.
Secondly, it has a built-in workout fan that you can use to keep you cool during your running.
The treadmill also supports iFit integration if you have an iFit account. The idea behind iFit is that you can keep track of your goals and workouts, with everything all synced up for you in the cloud. In addition, with an iFit account, you can get workouts that will help you towards your goals, and download them onto your ProForm Power 995i.
Whilst the concept and treadmill integration with iFit is a nice perk, membership to iFit beyond the first year requires a paid subscription. This is a slight negative as nobody is going to want to have additional costs on top of what they paid for purchasing the treadmill.
However, without the iFit capabilities, you can still use the workout programs included with the system. With over 30 workout programs there’s still a wide enough variety to keep you occupied.
Should I Buy ProForm Power 995i Treadmill?
If you’re serious about running and don’t want to see your fitness improvements limited by your treadmill, then the ProForm Power 995i is one you should consider seriously.
Not many machines under $1,000 are able to provide runners with such a great experience, and this is what sets the Power 995i apart. With top speeds of 12 MPH and inclines up to 15%, you’ll always be challenged.
On the other hand, if you’re only looking to use your treadmill for walking and light jogging then you may not need something as powerful as the ProForm Power 995i Treadmill. However, there’s nothing ever wrong with getting a machine above your current capabilities as you never know when you may decide to up your goals.
Overall the Proform Power 995i treadmill is a solid buy. It’s extremely well built, sturdy and durable, whilst at the same time having the advantage of being foldable. It has a lot of features, such as speakers, incline controls and workout fan. And finally, it has the potential to match all types of fitness levels. It’s powerful 3.0 CHP motor means that this is a treadmill that should last you a long time no matter how hard you push it.
